The First Public Funded Fashion Collection

Tuesday, September 7, 2010
Well it is here!!! Katie Eary's eagerly awaited womenswear collection was put on sale at 8:30 am GMT today at Catwalk Genius. The collection has a variety of dark, photographic prints incorporated on body con dresses, t shirts, leggings and leotards - some sequined over the knee socks are also available.Katie Eary is well known for her striking menswear collections. In particular her first Spring Summer 2010 where graphic internal organ imagery was played against metal rib cadges and bones printed on leggings. Ordinarily I am not that interested by menswear - I fall into the traditional trap of thinking it's all tops and trousers or suits... But I really admire the inventiveness of her unusual streetwear style. The new womenswear collection does not disappoint with feather and scales as the running theme.
I mention in the title of this blog post that the collection is publicly funded... The shares in the collection were announced and launched at the end of May this year and quickly sold out. The finances from the shares were then invested in design and production, a sample collection was created and shot on model/designer Ben Grimes and the collection put into production. The sale of the collection is the final stage in proving that the crowd-funding principle can work in fashion. I think this is a really interesting element, the profits from sales will be distributed between the supporters, the label and Catwalk Genius, with a proportion going to Katie’s chosen charity, The Haemophilia Society.

For more about Katie check out her website and blog. Here is the link to Catwalk Genius where you can make some purchases....
